Flexible working staff over the summer holidays, how will this affect your payroll?

The school holidays are soon upon us and it can be a difficult time for working parents who are usually juggling managing their work life along with paying more on childcare for a reasonably long time. Whilst many choose to take all of their annual leave during the school break, this is not always possible (after all not all your staff can be off at the same time with their children!).

You should be reminded, you don’t have to accept requests for flexible working and may refuse these providing there is a valid business reason for doing so!

This will put increased pressure on your payroll function. Flexible working staff members make payroll significantly more complex and it is important to have processes in place to manage these changes.

When everyone works a standard working week, it is easier to identify an error however, when a business adopts multiple flexible working patterns it becomes far harder to spot those mistakes. Even if the number of hours worked is standard, the use of compressed hours for example, makes time off and holidays far more complicated to calculate.

A key requirement in your payroll is to make sure that employee working hours are accurately recorded. Speak to Sence today to see how we can assist in your payroll!
